Three reasons why change can help your spiritual health

"And whatever you do whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17

I'm no stranger to the stage. I've been performing since I was eight years old. However, it was not until my mid-thirties that I realized I could use theatre as a form of ministry. I got an epiphany to start writing and performing monologues that centered around my faith. This was a powerful ministry that I started at my church. However, during the pandemic, our church went through two different closures. I knew I wanted to continue my theatrical ministry, but I wondered how I was going to do this if I did not have an audience? God told me to think outside the box! I rediscovered my ministry by having my performances filmed, creating a website, and starting a blog to share my love for Jesus Christ. During this time of rediscovery, I felt my spiritual health was revived in three distinct ways.

1. Accepting change- Amidst this global crisis, we have been dealing with change every day. It can be hard to accept change when we thrive on things that are familiar to us. When I allowed God to mold my ministry during this challenging time, I could feel His presence leading the way. I experienced surrender in a whole new way, and believed that I felt God's guidance when I needed it most.

2. Making time for God- When the world stayed home for longer than we ever wanted, I realized I had extra time for my writing. I tried to view it as more time with God, rather than feeling discouraged that my joy was being taken away. I began writing more, so I could utilize the extra time in a positive way. I knew that if God was giving me ideas for my ministry, then He could certainly reveal ways that I could serve Him during this difficult time.

3. Finding a Creative Outlet- My theatre ministry enables me to use my imagination and spiritual gifts for the LORD. As an artist, it is beneficial for me to find ways to express myself. When we find our outlets, we can decrease negative feelings and turn our focus toward positive energy. When I perform, I feel a creative spark and a connection with God. Even though there are many factors that could prevent us from serving God right now, I feel determined that I need to spend more of my time sharing my faith.

What changes have you had to make in your life recently? Have you found new ways to rediscover the things that were important to you? I encourage you to share God's love with others! He is constant. He does not change. I promise you, He will not forsake you. Even though our world is changing, God is still waiting for you. Make the change, and answer His calling!

During this pandemic I have discovered my mask ministry. When I sew, I think of the person the item is for. This means I’m thinking about and praying for my friends and family member on a regular basis right now as I make more and more masks. Love the scripture reference.
